New Zealand History
People came to NZ for land and space.
Kupe and his wife Kuramarotini where the first people to arrive to New Zealand from the Pacific Islands. The early Polynesians used the wind, stars and sea swells to navigate.
The Treaty of Waitangi was written by William Hobson and signed on February the 6 1840. It was signed by 500 Maori Chiefs. It was translated by Henry Williams. Hone Heke was the first Maori chief to sign the Treaty of Waitangi.
By 1850 the first British people came. They came in boats and took 6 weeks to get to nz.
As the Polynesians became Maori they had to change to adapt to NZ. European language, work and how they interacted with new people had to change.
